Those who enter the exhibition will literally 'enter' the book King Matt the First, where they will get acquainted with its narrative and the main problems troubling the little hero. We asked Iwona Chmielewska, an outstanding illustrator and author of many so-called picture books, in which image and word ingeniously complement each other and create a symbolic message, to create illustrations for this part of the exhibition. After leaving the labyrinth of the novel narrative, visitors will find themselves in an open space of games and activities, where everyone - adults and children alike - will be invited to discuss and reflect on universal, fundamental issues concerning both the organization of the state and the smaller, local community. The games are organized around several issues. What is a community, a community, a state, a nation? How do people get along and make decisions about the community? What are the types of state systems? How does a democratic state work? How does a self-governing community work? What does it mean to govern, make decisions and manage the budget? And finally - what rights do people, citizens, children have?
The exhibition to which we want to invite you will not give anyone ready answers, but will make you think about the past and the reality in which we live. We hope that it will be a valuable time spent together with children, in the words of Janusz Korczak: 'When I play or talk with a child - two equally mature moments of my life and his life are intertwined'. We hope that both children from adults and adults from children can learn something.
